Second Generation Aichholz Opens Solo OB/GYN Practice

In an era of "managed care" medicine, where the patient more often than not feels like a "number" or a "case", one local Mt. Lookout resident is bucking the trend by opening a good old-fashioned solo practice. His theory, says Dr. David D. Aichholz, OB/GYN, is that "Some doctors have become so preoccupied with the business aspects of a medical practice in the managed care environment that the sacred doctor/patient relationship has been sacrificed. The only way to really know your patients is to spend more time to get to know each one as an individual. The only way to have that amount of time is to practice medicine as a solo practitioner."

Dr. David D. Aichholz, M.D., obstetrics and gynecology, changed his practice as a member of a large group to solo practitioner beginning July 1, 1997. David was fortunate enough to practice in the same office with his father, Dr. Don D. Aichholz for a year before Don became ill. Much like his late father, David believes in the value of one on one, patient to doctor relationships. Don Aichholz opened a solo practice in obstetrics and gynecology some 30 years ago, and David is looking forward to practicing medicine "the old-fashioned way," with the benefits of current training.

Dr. David Aichholz is board certified in OB/GYN as of November, 1996. His special interests in the field are High Risk Obstetrics and operative vaginal deliveries, menopause and hormone replacement therapy, as well as gynecologic surgery. In addition, he finds the treatment of infertility and early pregnancy loss rewarding. Dr. Aichholz's philosophy is that "Every couple deserves the opportunity to have their own child." One very grateful couple feels that their family grew from three to four because of that philosophy. Wade and Debbie Giffin say, "As a result of a number of early pregnancy losses, we were beginning to accept that our son Alex would be an only child. We believe God put Dr. Aichholz, and his unique prenatal insight and care, into our path. He was both an answer to prayer and a participant in the miracle we named Christopher Isaac."

Dr. Aichholz is a Cincinnati native, (born at The Christ Hospital) and educated at the University of Cincinnati Medical School. He completed his residency training at The University of Cincinnati Hospital, which he describes as "one of the nationally recognized institutions for the training of residents in obstetrics." UC also has a solid reputation in Gynecology, and Gynecologic Surgery in particular.

He graduated from Indian Hill High School and earned his undergraduate degree from Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He has been a resident of Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout for about seven years. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Aichholz enjoys spending time with his family, especially his wife, Nancy and their daughter and twin sons. He enjoys the outdoors, and likes to spend time fishing, working in the yard and playing golf. He says if he wasn't practicing medicine (and if he won the lottery!) he would be a "gentleman farmer and a world traveler."

Dr. Aichholz will be offering his obstetrics patients the choice of delivering at either The Christ Hospital or Bethesda North Hospital. His offices are located on Reading Road, near Downtown Cincinnati, and in Mason, Ohio.
